Welcome Teachers!

Revised 2006-10-28 Thanks for visiting Math-Drills.Com. This math website was created and is maintained by me, Peter Waycik. I have been a teacher for just over seven years, mostly in the grade five to eight range. This website was originally created as a way of sharing resources that I created to help students learn math facts. Every new school year brings students who don't have a grasp of basic math facts. This always results in these students struggling to succeed with the math curriculum. Although there are critics of math drills, I still include math drills in my instructional time especially near the beginning of the year. I mainly use math drills as a diagnostic assessment tool; however, I continue to use them when students would benefit from repeated practice. I have included several holiday themed math worksheets as students need refreshers once in a while, and fancy holiday math worksheets are a way of making the refresher fairly painless.

I wouldn't suggest continuing to "drill" students when they are showing no sign of progress; this probably means that they need a different approach. I would suggest using math worksheets found on this page in a non-threatening way: they are best used in conjunction with great teaching/learning strategies. For example, to teach the addition of three-digit numbers, you might use base-ten blocks using questions found on one of the math worksheets available on this website. In this example, students are not sitting at their desk with pencil and paper using an algorithm, they are manipulating base-ten blocks; the math worksheet is used as a source of questions that come with answer keys, so students get feedback on their results, and the teacher saves time.

With all that said, Math-Drills.Com continues to grow. It started with around four hundred math worksheets, and it now boasts over six thousand! On average, on school days, I receive between one thousand and two thousand unique visitors to the index page. This isn't a whole lot compared to the number of teachers in the world; in my province alone, there are about 70,000 elementary teachers. I have plenty of bandwidth available for new visitors (and new math worksheets), so hopefully, the site will continue to grow.

I have no plans to charge for the math worksheets I provide. I'm tickled pink whenever someone sends me a positive comment or an anecdote about how they used the math worksheets from Math-Drills.Com; this is payment enough.

Free may or may not mean perfect. I have made a couple of mistakes (that have been corrected) with answer keys, so be warned that I nor the math worksheets that I generate are perfect. I have based many of the math worksheets on user suggestions. I can generate just about any math worksheet that you suggest. I don't hear too many suggestions, so I either have everything that you need, or you're not speaking up. I might not use your suggestion, but you can always make it.

Printable means that the math worksheets look on paper like they do on the screen. I have seen many websites that will generate a million different math worksheets for you, but they all look terrible, and they never print out nicely. I chose the pdf format because it is almost ubiquitous on computers these days. I have seen very few problems with viewing and printing pdf files; the problems are usually related to odd fonts being used, so I use fonts that are common.

I appreciate you visiting this website, and I hope that you will continue to visit for many years to come.
